Oak Opening, also known as the "Sacred Space", is an area in which no building have been or shall be built. The area is surrounded by buildings and roads, but within it there are only sidewalks and towering oaks. On the eastern edge stands Linton Hall. The northern border is West Circle Drive. The Western edge is the Music Building and Music Practice Building. Finally, the Southern border is delineated by Beaumont Tower and the MSU Museum. This space was first called a "Sacred Space" by President Abbott sometime during his time as president from 1862 until 1885.
